Wings for Life World Run is a global running event that raises funds for spinal cord injury research.
In 2021, the World Run app was barely functional. It was built by a small team in Switzerland on the cheap who were doing their best to deliver a complex experience with a less than optimal tech stack.
I was brought in to evaluate the situation and propose a plan to bring the work in-house.
The World Run app was the primary way for runners to register for the event, track their progress, and share their stories. It was also the primary way for donors to contribute to the event.
You get one day per year for the event to succeed. No second chances. The edge case is the use case.
